Project Overview
OVERVIEW
The Central Utah Water Conservancy District is constructing a 60-inch water pipeline that will convey water from Strawberry Reservoir to the cities and towns of south Utah County. This pipeline is known as the Spanish Fork Santaquin Pipeline. Water deliveries will be made to cities and towns for secondary system use from the pipeline.
A segment of the pipeline known as the Salem Reach 2 Pipeline will extend along Salem Canal Road from Elk Ridge Drive westward to approximately 1150 East in Payson. The pipeline will leave the roadway near 1150 East and travel westward across Goosenest Drive, across the Strawberry High Line Canal and cross Rocky Ridge lining up with approximately 700 South in Payson.
After the new 60-inch pipe has been installed and tested, new asphalt will be installed to replace that portion of the roadway that was excavated. The undisturbed portion of the roadway will then receive a new layer of asphalt creating an entirely new roadway surface for all traffic.
This project includes the installation of a new 42-inch HDPE pipe to be placed into the Salem Canal and then enclosed (covered). This pipe will carry the irrigation water for future deliveries beginning in 2020.
ROAD CLOSURE
As a result of the construction work, traffic along portions of the Salem Canal Road will be closed to all but local traffic beginning September 30th, 2019. Only local traffic (to access homes and property) is permitted travel in the active work zone.
There will be one paved lane with shared access (daytime construction and landowner use) along the south side of the road. Expect to encounter significant delays and one-way traffic within the work zone.
Most of the pipeline installation work is expected to occur this fall into early winter. The replacement pipeline and reconstructed water delivery turnouts for the Salem Canal are expected to be operable at the start of the irrigation season next spring.
