WORK THIS WEEK - OVERVIEW
Beginning Monday December 9th there will be two crews working along Salem Canal Road. The new crew will begin working between 2100 W and Elkridge Drive. Currently we have a crew working between 1900 West and 1200 East, this is a very congested work zone with traffic delays due to equipment moving along the roadway.
Both of these crews will be working to remove the concrete lining from Salem Canal and to place and bury the new irrigation pipeline in the canal bed. A third crew is working to finish placing the pipeline across Goosenest Drive.
GOOSENEST ROAD CLOSURE
Crews continue the work of placing the pipeline accross Goosenest Drive. This work requires a hard closure of the road; it will be completely closed to traffic just south of where it connects with Salem Canal Road.
The contractor is working to have Goosenest Drive open to traffic with minor delays by Friday December 6th. (See Detour Map below)
SALEM CANAL ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Crews continue to remove the concrete from the canal along Salem Canal Road and are placing an irrigation pipeline in the canal bed. Please look for an alternate route to your destination.
NOTE: At various times throughout the day there will be lengthy delays while crews place the pipe in the canal bed. Vehicles will not be able to pass through the work area while this work is in progress and will need to detour around the work site. This is a moving operation and the location of the work changes each day as work progresses along the canal (see project map below).
This work is moving west along the road. At the location where this work is taking place traffic is reduced to a single lane so please drive cautiously through the area if permitted to do so.
Expect to see increased trucking traffic near the active work zones. Please be cautious around trucks and maintain a safe distance from crews and the equipment.
ROAD CLOSURE RESTRICTIONS
Traffic is directed to follow the posted detour route to circumnavigate the work zone. Please be courteous and follow the signs and directions given by flaggers.

The Central Utah Water Conservancy District is constructing a 60-inch water pipeline that will convey water from Strawberry Reservoir to the cities and towns of south Utah County. This pipeline is known as the Spanish Fork Santaquin Pipeline. Water deliveries will be made to cities and towns for secondary system use from the pipeline.
A segment of the pipeline known as the Salem Reach 2 Pipeline will extend along Salem Canal Road from Elk Ridge Drive westward to approximately 1150 East in Payson. The pipeline will leave the roadway near 1150 East and travel westward across Goosenest Drive, across the Strawberry High Line Canal and cross Rocky Ridge lining up with approximately 700 South in Payson.
After the new 60-inch pipe has been installed and tested, new asphalt will be installed to replace that portion of the roadway that was excavated. The undisturbed portion of the roadway will then receive a new layer of asphalt creating an entirely new roadway surface for all traffic.
This project includes the installation of a new 42-inch HDPE pipe to be placed into the Salem Canal and then enclosed (covered). This pipe will carry the irrigation water for future deliveries beginning in 2020.
As a result of the construction work, traffic along portions of the Salem Canal Road will be closed to all but local traffic beginning September 30th, 2019. Only local traffic (to access homes and property) is permitted travel in the active work zone.
There will be one paved lane with shared access (daytime construction and landowner use) along the south side of the road. Expect to encounter significant delays and one-way traffic within the work zone.
Most of the pipeline installation work is expected to occur this fall into early winter. The replacement pipeline and reconstructed water delivery turnouts for the Salem Canal are expected to be operable at the start of the irrigation season next spring.
